The City of Casa has received over sixty fruit trees to be planted in the City Park to create a Food Forest Orchard.  The funds to purchase the trees was awarded through a grant from the Arkansas Forestry Service.

“Our goal is to create a place to teach kids in our community that you can grow your own fruits and vegetables.   We have several other initiatives that we’re working on to incorporate a walking trail and to develop a community garden as well.”  Said Mayor, Loyra Rainey. “In addition to the education portion of this program, we’re hoping to help eliminate some of the food desert in our part of the county.”

The trees were purchased from GreenThumb Nursery in Russellville and along with a generous donation from the owner Tammy Jansen we will be adding some blackberry bushes and other fruits.

With the help of our volunteers and our program coordinator, Patti Baskin, planting of the trees is expected to begin sometime next month.
